About The Workshop

During these ‘hands-on’ workshops, using a number of exciting techniques, participants learn how to impress found textures and natural forms into a ground, using pigments to highlight textured surfaces. Suitable for use on both paper or canvas, translucent and other layers are then built up on areas of these surfaces. This process results in beautifully complex, mixed-media artworks incorporating gesso, plaster, collage, pigments and wax. Over the course of an engaging and playful day, participants create an individual sample book of techniques, to use as a resource for future work.

I have delivered this workshop to Art Groups across the county, at weekend workshops at Leith School of Art, as well as at CPD events, leading courses for individuals and groups, at my studio in Edinburgh (photographed). I was invited to work extensively with both teachers and pupils in Mid-Lothian (in 2008-2009, funded by Mid-Lothian Council), delivering CDP workshops to Secondary School Art teachers at Lasswade High School and then to Advanced Higher students at Newbattle High School, in November 2008, with a follow-on workshop delivered to the Art Academy in the school, in January 2009. A DVD of this workshop was produced by Midlothian Council.
